Ok, I think I am fully awake now :D Now I'm starting to like almost everything I see here on !statusnet and !identica. What I said early in the morning was too pessimistic I think. It was largely about getting used to this new look and feel. #thathappens I just want to add that there is a significant userbase in the identiverse who use this purely as a microblogging tool. Like me, (I assume) they don't expect this to evolve into a "social network" like facebook, google+ etc. It is very interesting to see the first impressions and reactions of these users. #thinkingaloud

take a weekend newspaper for example. you'll find dozens of stolen photos (works of art) reproduced illegally without mentioning the name of the creator. #thinkingaloud

pretty much everyone takes photography for granted. conventional media leads this bastardization. they simply reproduce photos at will and hardly acknowledge the creator of a photo as if the photo is a natural phenomenon. #thinkingaloud

given the existence of Unicode and transliteration facilities such as google transliterate, pretty much everyone who can *speak* Sinhala can now *write* the language using a computer. but still people are reluctant to use computers. a friend wants to read a lengthy document over the phone for me to write down and translate :-/ #thinkingaloud #sinhala #progress

@laurelrusswurm I never attempt to take that path(of photography). Always thought of it as "not my cup of coffee". But photos always played a big part in my paintings. Either as a base or as a preparatory sketch etc. I rework them a lot and transfer them onto a canvas... #thinkingaloud

it was a big road accident. both electricity and phone/adsl lines were down. it took a whole day for CEB to fix the power lines. and SLT took four days to make up their mind to visit the site and see what's wrong. #thinkingaloud

Disturbing news: UOP faculty of engineering is not willing to open up EOE Pereira theatre for theatre/drama anymore. No external props, lights or sets allowed. Reason: installing "external equipment" damages the building/stage. That unofficially announces the end of indoor theatre performances at University of Peradeniya, because EOE was the only indoor theatre space they had! I sincerely hope they'll change their mind and deal with it more sensibly! #thinkingaloud

If you are my friend, don't ask me to do your television channel shit, program proposals, ads and ^&*$%#$ I don't like doing these things. I comfortably live 100 000 miles away from that realm, and yes, I am a privileged bastard. #thinkingaloud

I am planning to buy a complete solar power system for home use. That's the only alternative I have at the moment. But none of these shops claim to be able to power computer systems. WHY??? They all talk about lighting and hot water systems :-/ Should do some serious search before I go looking. I don't want to disconnect from CEB entirely. But this should provide a reliable backup. I know this is going to be costly, but in the long run, I will benefit financially. #thinkingaloud

my father is on a trip to Jaffna at the moment. from his comments, I am convinced that the number of visitors to Dehiwala zoo must have gone down after the "war" ended. You got a new zoo in the North. #thinkingaloud #gazeofthecolonizer #priviledged

had an interesting phone conversation about organizing an exhibition of paintings. talked about how to get it done without offending politicians. man, our cultural spaces are shrinking. It's getting difficult to breath. We need oxygen. #thinkingaloud

I used to be superstitious about taking photos of unfinished paintings :D Anyway, here's a photo. I'm trying to make progress with this painting. My blog is malfunctioning, so I can not post anything there. Maybe I should move it to somewhere else. To wordpress.com? #mypaintings #thinkingaloud http://ur1.ca/4sr2q

Just an acknowledgment: as an artist, this is the worst week I had since 2005. But I am not sad or depressed about it. I'm just looking at it from a pragmatic viewpoint and making an assessment of the situation. Maybe I'll be able to figure out how to get this done #thinkingaloud

sometimes, Sri Lankan visual artists behave like three wheeler taxi drivers who don't like others parking in their space :D So much of insecurity and competition for nothing. #thinkingaloud

So, I hear that the government is really determined and adamant on giving military training to university students. And the programme will start as scheduled. Extremely undemocratic and unhealthy agenda for a free society. #thinkingaloud #srilanka

Heh, seeing some drama on facebook. Here's a tip if you are a facebook user: I think from now on facebook should be a MUST to consider when you write your last will. You should ask someone to disable your account after your death. If not, who knows, facebook might change their mind (again) on privacy settings and decide to put your shit in public. Noone will be there to control what goes where. #thinkingaloud #privacy #bitsandpieces

Among other things, I tried out #trisquel gnu/linux yesterday. If you don't know what that is, go here and have a look : http://trisquel.info/en It was very impressive; very smooth and stable. %100 free as in freedom. I can safely say that this is the best fully free os I have ever tried. It LOOKS really good and it reminded me of how Linux Mint makes the first impression with good artwork and stuff. It is ubuntu based and has everything I need for work. But then the horror struck, when I remembered I heavily depend on #skype. #Ekiga is there, but none of my contacts use it, nor I can demand them to switch. But on the brighter side, it was good to find out that skype is the only nonfree thing that I have to install now :-O That's some progress. #thinkingaloud #freesoftware
